Choose a name with or syllables. Canines not only learn it faster, but it makes them simpler to train as well.
Avoid names such as common commands such as Go, Stay, Sit, etc. This may cause confusion for your puppy when trying to train him.
Stay away from potentially embarrassing names. The name "Pee Wee" may be comic at first, but the joke is getting elderly, how you will feel in a year time or longer when you need to call "Pee Wee" in home at night?

If you adopt older dog, it is best to keep the name, so it does not become confused. If for some reason you need to change it, think about the sound of the same name.
Choose a name that matches the look of  unique or character of the dog. The name Mighty might be a lovely name for an energetic dog, but not suitable for which like to sleep all day.
